This 5 days Uganda primates adventure is one of the best safaris which will take you to the most visited areas of Kibale National Park which is known for homing chimpanzees and other 12 primate species. After proceeding with the journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park which is well known for homing the endangered mountain gorillas and the community walk of the Batwa

You will continue with the journey to Mgahinga National Park which is famous for its golden monkeys and endangered mountain gorillas and then proceed with the journey to Kampala then to Entebbe airport and fly back to your home country.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the airport and transfer to Kibale National Park

On this first day of your 5 days Uganda primates adventure, you will be picked up by your driver guide immediately after you arrive at the airport in Entebbe who will brief you shortly before setting off for the Safari. The briefing is short, precise and educative where you will be told about the rules and regulations to follow on the Safari. Immediately after the briefing, you will drive heading to Kibale national Park a journey taking 5-6 hours’ drive from Kampala.

While on this journey to Kibale, you will have a stopover in Mubende where you will purchase some of the snacks and stretch your legs after proceeding with your journey have a second stopover in Fort portal city for your dinner and rest preparing for your next activity the following day

Day 2: chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable National Park

Begin the second day of your safari with a well-served morning breakfast at your lodge and after set for your most interesting activity, chimpanzee trekking. You will drive to the park headquarters from where you will be given a permit that allows you to enter the park for trekking after you will proceed with the journey to the starting point in the Kanyanchu visitor’s centre where they will give you a park ranger guide who will give you guidelines to follow on this activity.

Immediately after the briefing you will start looking for these animals and this activity normally takes 2-6 hours depending on the movements of these animals as soon as you reach them, you will be given one extra hour in the presence of these primates taking photos, short video clips and getting to know much information about chimpanzees. Having done your trekking, you will be rewarded with your trekking certificate and after drive heading to Bwindi impenetrable national park and drive to your booked lodge for your meals and rest.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and Batwa cultural experience

This is the day you have been dreaming of and you will start it with a morning breakfast at your lodge and then drive to the park for the gorilla trekking. Get a trekking permit at the park head office and after proceed to the starting point from where you find a ranger guide who will give you a short description of the activity. This activity normally takes 2-8 hours but the time frame depends on the movements of these primates

Since the animals move high in mountains, visitors should note that while coming, they should come with their hiking equipment and pack enough water for drinking plus snacks which will help them in case of thirst and hunger. As soon as you reach these endangered species, an extra hour is usually given to you to clearly view them and take photos and videos then when you are done with the activity, you will be given a certificate that shows that you participated in Gorilla trekking in Uganda. Drive to your lodge for lunch

In the evening, you will drive heading to one of the selected Batwa community for a cultural experience. This is an experience normally conducted by a Twa guide who will take you through the political, social and economic way of life of these once forest inhabitants. You will be told about how they used to gather food and their entertainment practices such as music, dance and drama.  Retreat to your lodge for dinner and a night’s stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Mgahinga National Park

Have your delicious breakfast at your lodge and after drive to Mgahinga National Park a journey taking 1-2 hours’ drive from Bwindi impenetrable national Par. The park is known for homing both golden monkeys and the endangered mountain gorillas hence the slogan ” where gold meets silver”. The park is the smallest in Uganda and it adjoins the volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The park was declared as a game sanctuary in 1930 and later upgraded to a National Park status in1991.

Day 5: Golden monkey trekking and fly back home

Be served with your delicious morning breakfast and then drive to the park for golden monkey trekking. These monkeys are considered one of the old world monkeys and are rare in most of Uganda’s national parks and East Africa as a whole but they are only found in Mgahinga National Park and Volcanoes National of Rwanda.

It is one of the activities that most visitors like to do while on their safaris in Uganda after the gorillas and chimpanzee trekking. It is usually done in 1-2 hours and the activity has no specific number of people to do it as it is in chimpanzees and gorillas. After the trekking, drive head back to Kampala having a stopover in Mbarara and stretch your legs. Proceed with the journey to Kampala with a second stopover at the equator for photographs and then drive directly to Entebbe airport and fly back home
